I’ve been hearing these 2 words thrown around way to much lately. Quite frankly I am sick of it! Right in line with “radical”, “dangerous” and “relevant” have become the craze. Sooooo…let me make this statement: “Instead of living dangerously and relevant, I chose to simply live righteously before God and man!” That should be dangerous/relevant enough!

Everone wants to be radical, but I think for the most part (I stress not everyone) really what they mean is I want to be known. I want to be famous…when people hear of me, I want them to know who I am. Let’s stop playing the fascade of being radical, dangerous, and relevant and get serious about how we walk with God.

Yes, God has called each of us for a purpose and destiny, but is is for His purpose and His pleasure. First and foremost, I was created to have fellowship with God! When I think of fellowship I think of a living, breathing dynamic that is continually effecting every aspect of who I am. That is what makes me who I am…not a concious decision to be relevant or radical.

I am reminded of a man in the Bible often referenced to by us, but by today’s standards he would a “nobody”! He is referenced directly in the Bible only twice(maybe a third time). Both references are quite simple on the surface. Here they are:

Gen 5:24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.

Pretty insignifigant as it appears… but I believe that both these scriptures are for us to remember that our primary purpose is to walk with God -in our ordinary lives- in such a way that all can see the difference! If we will walk in this way… that would be radical enough, dangerous for sure, and more relevant than any other thing we could do or say. Our ultimate example is Jesus! His disciples wanted Him to be a revolutionary, but all He did was follow the Father’s heart and voice!

That was revolutionary enough!

Later,

David

1 Corinthinians 1:9-11

9For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully

I’ll keep this one short…. I have been sitting at home today (the wife is in the last few weeks/days??? of pregnancy). While I have been at home… I have watched some tributes to the veterans. Got me thinking a lot about my family. So let me start here…. Back when I was like 8-9yrs old there was a hurricane on the way (if your from Louisiana that means -BOARD UP!!!). Well I was with my dad helping my grandpa board up his house. I mean I was 8-9… I couldn’t do much, but at the end my grandpa brought something out… It was a gun. It was old, rusted, and weathered. He had the original leather holster and all. It all looked so worn and old, but I had know idea what it was. Well my grandpa, gave it to me. He told me he had picked it up off of a German soldier that had been captured/surrendered in France.

Imagine as a little boy… I had no appreciation for the story, just the gun!!! Years later, as I worked at the lumber yard… which the same grandpa had owned… he told me the story again.(If you know my grandpa… he also “typed” it on a notecard-haha) This time when he told me the story it meant something a little different. Now I was old enough to realize what he was telling me. He had shared a piece of history with me! Not only that, but the bravery of that generation. I found out through the years… that he barely missed D-Day. Absolutely incredible. I also, found out that my great uncle-my grandpa Boudreaux’s brother was a fighter pilot. Long story short- He flew tons of dangerous missions!!! WOW!!!

I know this is more of a ramble, but my heart is filled with emotion as I think about this. I am not generally a cheer-ra-ra guy, but I have to give props to my grandpa and his generation. I only hope that our generation can be as courageous and brave, whether in the military or not. I do know some that are currently in the military… to you I say thank you!

Lastly, to the generation of my grandparents I say thank you! If you ever have a chance to sit and talk with someone from the WWII generation… you will be moved to courage and the remembrance of a time, where freedom actually meant something and was worth fighting for.

THANKS TO PAW PAW BOUDREAUX

P.s. I still have that gun all polished and clean (now). I rarely shoot it, but I treasure it! Not as a weapon, but a piece of history and a reminder!

If you know me… you know that I love watching football. If I am not really busy on a Saturday/Sunday…. you will find me watching college football(the best) or the NFL. I can watch it for hours… don’t care if it is the worst game ever… I just enjoy watching football.

Last night, I watched a very “special game”… Viking vs. Packers. The game did not disappoint! Great game! Let me just say I am not a Brett Favre hater, but I am also not a Brett Favre lover either. Quite honestly, I wanted to see a great game and would have been happy if both teams had lost, but the NFL doesn’t let that happen..haha!!! I had a buddy of mine over and all he cared about was his fantasy players(I think he got killed… every so often he would hollar/mutter somthing like “holy buckets” in a tone only fantasy football players would understand… so I take it he loss since I don’t play fantasy football)!

In the midst of the great game and my buddy hollaring at his players, I realized something… Brett Favre is just another person who is struggling with his identity. Let me explain, I totally understand his waffling about playing, then retiring, then playing, then reitring(you get the picture). What really struck me is that his family encouraged him to go back and play, Why? For your family to be like…”Ugh… we want you to be gone for half the year at least” strikes me as odd. But if he is having an identity crisis it makes total sense. Now follow me here…. let’s go back…. go back to highschool… what were you known for? Thank God things have changed, right! Imagine if you had been stuck there for the last 25 years. Wow, what a stigma? Back to Brett: He doesn’t have an identity other than what he does! His self worth is wrapped up in what he does. Anybody see the postgame interview?! You would have thought this was the pinnacle of his career, even though he tried to blow it off. Here is a 40 year old Hall of Fame , Superbowl winning QB, record breaking gun-slinger still trying to prove to the world he is/was a legit football player.

As I watched this happening… the emotion, hype, and the all around circus. It hit me! We’re all live like Brett Favre…. trying to prove we are still “worth it” to other people and God. Let me leave you with this thought/question? Who are you and what are you worth? I know the answer, do you?! Are you the everyday Brett Favre… or something greater?
